Black Friday Brazil / Kinect

Hoje, muitos americanos estão aproveitando seus mais novos produtos comprados (muito) alegremente no dia em que as lojas de todo o país fazem uma limpa no estoque para garantir que os números no final de seus balanços não fiquem no vermelho. A Black Friday (o nome por conta da cor dos números) já é praticamente um feriado de compras nos E.U.A, atraindo centenas de milhões de consumidores para as lojas.

O interessante é que esse ano (depois de uma pequena tentativa da Apple no ano passado), o site BuscaDescontos realizou uma tentativa de incorporar um pouco dessa ação no Brasil, oferecendo cadastros e prometendo avisar os clientes e provê-los com boas ofertas. Quem deu uma passeada pelo twitter ontem viu que a tentativa não foi muito bem sucedida. As ofertas não eram como as ofertas americanas e a empresa simplesmente não deu conta do número de cadastrados. Porém, o comentário do fundador da BuscaDescontos, declarando que no próximo ano eles conseguirão “coisas bem mais legais” e o fato de milhões terem visitado o site no dia de ontem nos parece prometer uma ação muito maior e muito melhor ano que vem. Quem sabe então não conseguiremos um Kinect (lançado há 23 dias) por apenas 50 dólares, como a galera nos E.U.A conseguiu ontem…?!

What you don’t know is that this year (after a small attempt from Apple last year), the website BuscaDescontos made an attempt to incorporate some of the Black Friday action in Brazil, offering promising entries and notifying customers and providing them with good discounts on a variety of products. Whoever wondered around in Brazil’s twitter yesterday noticed that the attempt was not very successful. The offers were not like the U.S. deals and the company simply couldn’t handle the number of registrations in the website. However, the website’s founder comment, stating that next year they’ll have “really cool things” and the fact that millions of Brazilians visited the website yesterday seems to promise a bigger and better Brazilian Black Friday next year. Maybe then we’ll put our hands on a Kinect (released 23 days ago) for only $ 50, just like my buddies in the U.S. probably did…

 

Kinect / Vimeo

Falando em KINECT, o youtube está tendo uma média de mais de 1000 uploads por dia, relacionados ao novo equipamento. Para quem não lembra (e quer ficar orgulhoso), o Kinect é aquele aparelho que, conectado ao XBOX 360 scaneia os elementos do ambiente em que você está jogando(seu quarto por exemplo) e permite, literalmente, te colocar dentro do jogo. Sem controle e sem bastonete do wii. Só você e seus movimentos. A parte para ficar orgulhoso está ligada ao criador do Kinect, Alex Kipman. O programador é brasileiro e ainda por cima, de Curitiba, PR! Quem quiser acessar entrevistas sobre o Alex e vídeos sobre o Kinect ficará satisfeito com a quantidade de vídeos no youtube e no vimeo, site que, aliás, está em primeiro na lista de top links do BLOGPULSE.

 

Speaking of KINECT, youtube is having an average of more than 1000 uploads per day, related to the new gaming gadget. For those who don’t remember (and for Brazilians that want to be proud), the Kinect is a device that, once connected to an XBOX 360 console scans the elements of the environment you’re playing in (your room for example) and literally put you inside the game. There’s no controller or something like the wii remote. Only you and your own movements. The part about Brazilians feeling proud is due to the fact that the creator of Kinect, Alex Kipman, is Brazilian, and moreover, from my hometown Curitiba! People who want to access interviews and videos about Alex and about the Kinect will be happy with the amount of videos on youtube and vimeo, site which, by the way, is ranked first on the list of top links by BlogPulse.

 

 

Vimeo / Compartilhamento

O vimeo conta muitas vezes com maior qualidade e maior abertura do que o youtube. Por essas e outras, muitos profissionais do audiovisual são fãs do vimeo e apontam o youtube como ferramenta para amadores e virais apenas. Radicalismos a parte, é verdade que o vimeo oferece coisas que o youtube não oferece e não tem coisas que atrapalham a vida dos navegadores do youtube. O problema é justamente que o youtube oferece tudo. Quanto mais cedo programadores e empreendedores de plantão perceberem que isso é o que abre portas para a criação de sites de compartilhamento de vídeo mais segmentados, melhor para nós e nosso dia a dia.

Os servidores de vídeo, junto com os blogs, as ferramentas de busca e tudo que a internet fornece em termos de compartilhamento de informação, contribuem cada vez mais para a universalização do conhecimento. Para todo mundo ficar pensando, eu trouxe um vídeo de Isac Asimov, de 1988. Ele, incrivelmente, prevê exatamente a situação da qual estamos falando hoje e nos faz pensar sobre o caso do site de compartilhamento Pirate Bay, que ontem teve a apelação do caso rejeitada e no qual os fundadores foram condenados à prisão e a uma multa milionária. Desde o Napster, sabemos que, nessa área, não há caminho de volta. Se Asimov previu o Google, o Wikipedia e o Yahoo Answers em 1988, nós tranquilamente podemos dar um jeito de, respeitando direitos e o trabalho alheio, continuar inovando o compartilhamento de informações e estendendo nosso próprio ponto de vista.

Vimeo often presents higher quality and greater content openness than youtube. For those reasons and others, many audiovisual professionals are vimeo fans and link youtube as a tool for amateurs and viral videos only. Radicalisms aside, it is true that vimeo offers things that YouTube doesn’t and doesn’t have things that get in the way of youtube browsers. The problem is just that youtube tries to have everything. The sooner developers and entrepreneurs realize that that problem is what opens doors for the creation of more targeted video-sharing websites, the better it will be for us and our daily activities.

Video servers, along with blogs, search engines and all that the Internet provides in terms of information sharing, contribute increasingly to the universalization of knowledge. To get everybody thinking, I brought a video of Isaac Asimov, from 1988. He, believe it or not, predicts the situations we’re talking about today and makes us think about the case of the content sharing website Pirate Bay, which yesterday had  its case’s appeal rejected and in which the founders of the website were sentenced to jail and fined millions. Since Napster, we know that in this context, there is no way back. If Asimov predicted Google, Wikipedia and Yahoo Answers in 1988, we can easily find a way to, respecting the rights and the work of others, keep innovating information sharing and extending our own point of view.
